The Good Ol' Days

Okay, so after a long chaotic holiday season, although I absolutely looove the holiday festivities, I must admit, I was somewhat relieved knowing that it was all over... Crazy Traffic, Crazier Drivers, and of course, the occasional grinch.....

So as you know, my little one returned to his elementary school full throttle on Monday, expressing what I felt was as an overenthusiastic demeanor.... I mean, C'mon.... Is anyone that eager to get back to reality.... I have to say overall, I admire the energy kids have and it is one of the most ammusing things ever to simply sit back and watch the things that children do.... what they say sometimes can also be mind-boggling at times.... (if you have little ones, Im sure you can understand where Im coming from)...

Ryland in particular is somethin' else.... He says and does things sometimes like he's 14 and not 4. He's somewhat easily entertained, however he can get bored easily as well ... Perfect example- .... a while back, I left some cash on the dresser in my bedroom and came back to find Ry doodling " How to train your dragon " pictures on a twenty dollar bill.... Of course, my first reaction was to get upset and ask him what he was thinking, but it melted my heart and drew a smile to my face when I realized how innocent and completely oblivious he was to what he was writing on....

Another instance, out of the blue, he comes into my bedroom, and very adamantly declared that he was a 'really big boy' and needed 'cartoon-free' boxer briefs as opposed to the ones he had with the stupid talking sponge. When I asked him why he felt that way, he simply said. "Cause Im big already mom, and big boys wear big boy undies to cover thier big boy stuff".... this cracked me up as I found myself at a loss for words... I said "okay, tomorrow when we wake up, we'll go first thing to get you big boy underwear". He seemed stoked. We went to bed, and the next day you better believe he had me out and about first thing that morning. As we get into the store, he runs off and asks the lady where he could find the 'big boy undies' she laughed, and pointed him in the direction to which he could find em. I said "have at it kiddo" he looked up with an "I got this" look, and began to look around.... after all this commotion about how he's a big boy, he hands me a pack of boxer briefs with transformers on them. I told him that I thought big boys wore cartoon free undies, only to have him reassure me that the transformers were for big kids.... Anyhow, I laughed, we got the undies and left.... Then the next day he rushes me the whole morning long about getting to school on time because if he didn't get there early, then all the other kids would get all of the strawberry milk, and he would be left with the nasty white milk... Lol

Amidst all the little things that Ryland does, I realize that I really do miss the days when my biggest concerns were what kind of undies to get, and strawberry milk.... as life goes on, things happen so fast that we often miss things... Little things.... Im happy that Ryland does things like this to remind me not to take life so seriously. If we constantly sweat all of the small stuff, then before we know it, we realize that while we spent time continuously worrying, life just passes us by. We need not get consumed in all that life throws at us... and although, sometimes we get the nasty white milk, in the end it's good to know that transformer undies are officially 'big boy'acceptable!!!

All in all, what's funny about kids is the fact that they are so pleased with things regardless off the simplicity... Money has no value to them, and the biggest issues in thier life are what underwear to put on, and who gets the last strawberry milk.... I think we may find a lesson in this. And although we teach our children all we can to help them in the long run, sometimes.... just sometimes, they might teach us a little something too.... and when our lives get so busy, chaotic and stressful, we are reminded to laugh about things as we remember the good ol' days....

As always, stay in Faith,
